Waterway administrations are tasked with maintaining and improving the Danube waterway for inland navigation, to deploy and harmonize services in the inland navigation sector and at the same time to preserve and protect the Danube as natural river habitat. Waterway administrations have to act within this complex constellation of interests.

The Project FAIRway Danube  supports the waterway administrations in achieving a common level of services for the Danube waterway and its tributaries.
