FAIRway actions on the Danube – a success story from Croatia

FAIRway Danube pilot activities are continuing to provide best results even in times of the global Covid-19 crisis. Croatian project partner conducted following activities in the past 9 months:

Implementation of national WAMS in Croatia

Hard work always results in great achievements – this year showed us that not even difficult times can stop the awaited implementation of the national WAMS.

After 6 months of implementation (January – July), the Croatian WAMS is now fully operational and collects, stores and systematizes information about the waterway, morphology, critical areas, and hydrographic measurements.

The information will help the Croatian Ministry to plan and align waterway maintenance measures and underlying waterway management to the requirements of the fairway.

Surveying actions in Croatia

Using the new surveying vessel “Connecting Europe 1”, 9 critical locations have been surveyed in detail and results are provided to waterway users for increased safety in navigation.

Marking actions in Croatia

Marking vessel ’’Connecting Europe’’ continues to ensure navigation safety on the Danube. Since the beginning of the year, a total of 45 marking trips have been carried out on the Croatian pilot sector, which led to the efficient fairway marking.
